Diva Strategies for Avian Influenza

چکیده
Avian influenza viruses (AIVs) are single-stranded RNA viruses belonging to the Influenza virus A genus of the Orthomyxoviridae family. The segmented genome encodes ten or 11 proteins, depending on the strain. These proteins are the prominent outer surface glycoproteins HA and neuraminidase (NA), the matrix (M2) ion channels, the matrix (M1) protein, which is found lining the inner side of the lipid envelope of the virus, three polymerases (PA,PB1 and PB2), one NSP (NS1), a nuclear export protein (NEP) and a recently described accessory protein (PB1-F2) with pro-apoptotic activity [3]. AIVs can be classified into different subtypes based on the possession of one of the 16 antigenically distinct HA antigens, typed from H1 to H16, and one of nine NA antigens, typed from N1 to N9. Clinically, AIVs can be classified as low-pathogenic AI (LPAI), and highly pathogenic AI (HPAI) on the basis of the severity of the disease they cause in susceptible birds.

Applying conserved peptides of NS1 Protein of avian influenza virus to differentiate infected from vaccinated chickens
Avian influenza (AI) is a highly contagious disease in poultry and outbreaks can have dramatic economic and health implications. For effective disease surveillance, rapid and sensitive assays are needed to detect antibodies against AI virus (AIV) proteins. In order to support eradication efforts of avian influenza (AI) infections in poultry, the implementation of “DIVA” vaccination strategies, ...
متن کاملAvian Influenza Virus and DIVA Strategies.
Vaccination is becoming a more acceptable option in the effort to eradicate avian influenza viruses (AIV) from commercial poultry, especially in countries where AIV is endemic. The main concern surrounding this option has been the inability of the conventional serological tests to differentiate antibodies produced due to vaccination from antibodies produced in response to virus infection. In at...
متن کاملDevelopment of DIVA (differentiation of infected from vaccinated animals) vaccines utilizing heterologous NA and NS1 protein strategies for the control of triple reassortant H3N2 influenza in turkeys.
Since 2003, triple reassortant (TR) swine H3N2 influenza viruses containing gene segments from human, avian, and swine origins have been detected in the U.S. turkey populations. The initial outbreak that occurred involved birds that were vaccinated with the currently available H3 swine- and avian-origin influenza vaccines. Antigenically, all turkey swine-lineage TR H3N2 isolates are closely rel...
متن کاملH9N2 avian influenza virus in Korea: evolution and vaccination
Low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) H9N2 viruses have been circulating in the Eurasian poultry industry resulting in great economic losses due to declined egg production and moderate to high mortality. In Korea, H9N2 LPAI was first documented in 1996 and it caused serious economic loss in the Korean poultry industry, including layer and broiler breeder farms. Since then, the H9N2 viruses that...
متن کاملDual function of the hemagglutinin H5 fused to chicken CD154 in a potential strategy of DIVA against avian influenza disease: preliminary study
In this study we demonstrated that the vaccine candidate against avian influenza virus H5N1 based on the hemagglutinin H5 (HA) fused to the chicken CD154 (HACD) can also be used for differentiating infected from vaccinated animals (DIVA). As the strategy of DIVA requires at least two proteins, we obtained a variant of the nucleoprotein (NP49-375) in E. coli. After its purification by IMAC, the ...
متن کاملA heterologous neuraminidase subtype strategy for the differentiation of infected and vaccinated animals (DIVA) for avian influenza virus using an alternative neuraminidase inhibition test.
The option of vaccinating poultry against avian influenza (AI) as a control tool is gaining greater acceptance by governments and the poultry industry worldwide. One disadvantage about vaccination with killed whole-virus vaccines is the resulting inability to use common serologic diagnostic tests for surveillance to identify infected flocks. There has been considerable effort to develop a relia...
